Farm supplies, fertilizer, and propane gas - Wholesale and retail
This PROMPT user takes advantage of the ability to process "Kits" in sales
order processing. This feature is used in the sale of bulk fertilizer.
A kit is a group of SKU's that have been specified to indicate the units of
each SKU required to build the kit. Once a kit has been defined it can be
sold by simply entering the SKU number and quantity ordered for the kit.
Then, the stock levels of each component SKU will be immediately reduced in
the appropriate quantities. The price comes from the kit SKU and the cost
comes from the component SKU's.
The pack list will print each component SKU and related quantities and the
invoice will only reveal the price and quantities of the kit SKU. Component
SKU's can be sold individually, and kits, or components can be sold either
by the pound or ton. Therefore, you can see how neat this works with bulk
fertilizer sales, but can apply to many other items of a similar nature.
PROMPT also allows price, cost and quantities to be modified for up to 4
decimal places, and this customer uses this feature.
In addition to bulk fertilizer sales, they operate a production process where
they bag bulk fertilizer. PROMPT inventory control production feature is used
to convert inventory from bulk to bag and include the cost of bags and labor in
the cost of each bag of fertilizer.
To use this PROMPT feature they set up a subassembly for each product to be made
including the SKU's for all components along with the quantity of each. Then to
process they simply tell PROMPT how many units were produced and it converts these
components, or raw materials, into finished goods with the cost of these raw
materials being cost rolled into the cost of the finished goods including standard
labor cost if identified to the system. Of course the raw materials inventory is
reduced during the process.
It is important to understand that the PROMPT System was designed for wholesale
distribution and retail point of sale was included because many wholesalers also
have retail sales. Later we added production because some of our customers produced
a few goods. However, we do not recommend PROMPT for a pure manufacturing business
as good manufacturing software has a lot of features not found in PROMPT Business
System.

important to understand that this PROMPT Business System user enjoys the other
